In fact, specific caddy brands allocate space for individual rack screws. This prevents them from becoming scattered and scratching each other.

Different Types of Rack Screw Sizes

The various rack screws and their descriptions are as follows:

• 10-32 rack screw: Popularly known as the “original rack screw”, this is the most common type of rack screw and is used with most networking equipment. The “10” refers to the screw size, with a diameter of 3/16”, or 4.8mm. “32” signifies the number of threads per inch.

• 12-24 rack screw: This is partially larger, with a diameter of 7/32”, or 5.6mm. While it is bigger, it features less threads per inch at 24. 

• M6 rack screw: The  M6 screw originates from Europe. It is the largest rack screw, with a diameter of 6mm. Although it isn’t frequently used in the United States, some HP server racks do utilize this variation.
